Whether you're planning a first birthday party with family and friends or your hosting your child's entire classroom at home you are sure to want a fun way to keep the children entertained. There are lots of different types of party entertainment available in New York City, some are great and some are not so great. Here's how you can choose the right type of entertainment for your child's next party.
Pick the right entertainment based on the ages of your guests. A birthday party clown might be entertaining for some age groups but not others. I don't recommend party clowns for toddlers because very young children can become frightened by the crazy makeup and hair. Older children will find a party clown to be too babyish. The same goes for costumed characters.
Hiring some guy in a SpongeBob SquarePants costume to walk around a party is entertaining for about five minutes. I don't mean to pick on SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Batman, Spiderman and Mario are all about the same when it comes to entertainment value. Sure, they create a bit of excitement when they first walk in but after that it's pretty dull. Also, when you're hiring a costume party character from an entertainment company or party supply store, you may not be too happy with the type of person that they send. I've been doing parties all over New York City and so often I see custom characters showing up late or in cheesy looking shabby costumes that could use a cleaning. Many of these party stores will hire anybody off the street to show up at your party. Is that what you really want to have?
Go for proven, reliable entertainment. I've been a magician at parties for over 30 years. I started off doing this in high school and I loved every minute of it. Over the years I've performed at all sorts of parties and in every type of venue New York City has to offer. So whether it's a birthday party in Central Park for six-year-olds, a party for 10-year-olds in a sushi restaurant, a sweet 16 on a yacht, a sleepover party at home, a big first birthday party at catering hall, a smaller party at a pizza parlor, a party for 100 people, a party for only five, I've done it. My magic show is completely customizable. I changed the routine based upon the makeup of the audience. If you have lots of younger children at the party I will include lots of colorful and silly tricks. If you are having a party for a teenager all do much more sophisticated sleight-of-hand and mind reading magic.
